Simple Chocolate Cake Recipe

On the days my daughter, Ruby, is at home and her older brother is at school I aim to spend some quality, one-on-one time together. One day we might play with Playdoh together, another day we might play Memory Cards or draw pictures together, etc. I let Ruby choose. One of her favourite things to do together is (I’m happy to say!) BAKING. Yew! I feel very blessed to have a daughter with whom I can share the joy of creating baked delights in the kitchen. Like baking this simple chocolate cake.

Typically, Ruby and I get out my grandma’s old recipe books and flick through the pages to find something that we’d like to bake. Many of our first selections are ruled out because we lack the ingredients. You see, our pantry is tiny and (I hate to admit) very disorganised. So, finding a recipe with ingredients that we already have can be somewhat of a challenge. It was in this scenario, that Ruby and I happened upon this Simple Chocolate Cake Recipe called SIMPLICITY CHOCOLATE CAKE.

Simplicity Chocolate Cake. It has a certain ring to it, don’t you think? Vintage gold. Simplicity, Chocolate and Cake–what’s not to like? Simple ingredients (that even we had in our pantry) and super easy to prepare. This cake is true to it’s name.

Simplicity Chocolate Cake was perfect for mother and daughter baking quality time. We just melted the butter, mixed all the ingredients together and gave the batter a good beat. We then placed our cake in a moderate oven and baked for 30 minutes. All done! I do recommend waiting until the cake has cooled before removing it from the pan as it can prove to be a little crumbly.

When we were sharing this cake for afternoon tea my mum arrived. She exclaimed, ‘Simplicity Chocolate Cake–I remember that!’ She added that my grandma used to serve it as a pudding with custard. Simplicity Chocolate Cake just keeps giving. Enjoy on it’s own or heated with custard or ice cream. Get baking with your loved ones today!
