Sometimes less is more.
This is the case with Grandma’s Savoury Rice recipe. Simple ingredients and minimal seasoning allow the nutty flavour of the brown rice and the natural sweetness of the onion, capsicum, apple and tomato to shine through.
When I saw how simple this rice recipe was I had to control myself so that I didn’t add extra seasonings or ingredients. It seemed too basic! However, I controlled myself and followed Grandma’s recipe to a tee. It was dead easy to make and ready in no time.
My children weren’t the biggest fans of this recipe (I think it was too healthy!), but my husband and I enjoyed it. Usually, when you use brown rice as well as the other ingredients in Asian dishes, you add strong flavours like soy sauce or brown sugar. These additions, while tasty, mask the natural flavours.
Unlike most recipes, this Savoury Rice recipe offers simple, unadulterated, natural flavours. If this sounds like your cup of tea give it a go! I hope you enjoy it :)
