Country recipes have a way of making the soul feel good. They call us back to an era of time where life moved at a slower pace.
Visiting my grandma as a little girl would take me to that place. I remember the joy of baking cookies or simple dishes together, and the delicious smells that would greet you when you walked through her door.
As we rolled cookies together I would ask my grandma to tell me stories for her past. I loved hearing about her life growing up on a farm. There were so many stories! Of life by the river; or how she, with her ten siblings would gather around their family piano every evening singing and playing instruments together.
My young mind certainly was sentimental, and I couldn’t get enough of my grandma’s reminiscing. To me, her old recipes and her memory go hand in hand, so when she was no longer able to cook and gave me some of her old recipes books I felt very blessed.
Unfortunately, these books have been covered in dust for far too long. It’s time to open them up and rediscover tried and true food from a simpler life. I’d love for you to join me as I bring these recipes back to life.
